The Art of Knowing Yourself

A 10-Week Art Journaling Exploration starting mid-January 2027

What if you could become your own best friend?

What if you had a place where you could show up exactly as you are—to explore your thoughts, express your feelings, play with color, follow your curiosity and dream into the life you imagine?

The Art of Knowing Yourself is a 10-week online exploration into creativity, self-discovery and connection that begins mid-January 2027.

Through art, writing, poetry, reflection and play, we'll explore what happens when we give ourselves permission to create without judgment—and listen to what emerges.

You don't need to be an artist.
You simply need to be curious.

A Creative Practice for Life

For more than 35 years, art journaling has been one of my most trusted companions.

My journals have traveled with me through death, illness, divorce, travel, reinvention, new beginnings and ordinary everyday life.

They have given me a place to tell the truth, ask questions, play, grieve, celebrate, listen inwardly—and imagine what might come next.

Over time, I've realized that art journaling is about so much more than making beautiful pages.

It's a practice of presence.
A conversation with yourself.
A creative companion for life.

And ultimately, for me, it has been a path toward becoming my own best friend.

Is This Calling You?

  • Are you longing for a deeper relationship with yourself?

  • Do you want to explore your creativity—or reclaim a part of yourself that hasn't had enough room to play?

  • Are you moving through a transition or wondering what might be next?

  • Would you like a practice that helps you listen inwardly, quiet the inner critic and trust yourself more deeply?

  • Do you want a place to dream forward into the life you imagine?

Then this journey may be for you.

What Are We Building?

Over these 10 weeks, we're building something you can carry with you long after the course ends:

  • A creative practice for making, writing, playing and exploring.

  • A deeper relationship with yourself—learning to meet yourself with curiosity rather than judgment.

  • A community of people creating, reflecting and discovering together.

  • And a place to dream—to ask What if?, imagine possibilities and explore who you are becoming.

This isn't about creating a perfect journal.
It's about creating a practice of returning to yourself again and again.

Why I Teach This

I have reinvented my life again and again.
And my art journal has been there through all of it.

It has helped me listen when I didn't know what came next, recognize when something no longer fit, and begin imagining something new.

Again and again, my journal has helped me know myself, trust myself and dream forward.
Because art journaling isn't simply about documenting the life we're already living.
It can become a place to imagine the life we want to create.

What We'll Explore

We'll weave together creative practice and self-inquiry through color, mark making, collage, writing, imagery, poetry and play.

We'll explore curiosity, intention, the inner critic, listening inward, finding our own creative language and imagining possibility.

We'll make things.
We'll write.
We'll talk.
We'll experiment.
We'll probably make some messes.
And we'll see what we discover.

In their words…

Art.  "I am not artist."  "In visual form."  "I never do art like that."  "I don't like painting."  "I don't know how to draw."  "I am a child when it comes to art."

All these thoughts I brought with me to the class on art journaling. And then I sat down with Diane and others and I was invited to play.  To explore.

When I looked at the pages I created, I thought, “Oh, this is me! on paper!  In painting! and that is what I'm doing!  Expressing my self!”   Now I have a long-lost way to explore and express my soul out into the world and it feels like spaciousness and joy. - Loh, Spokane, WA
